jedikatalia:

Kat watched Rein with new eyes; that the young woman was making an effort to understand herself, to understand her fear was incredible to the Jedi. In a moment of clarity, the midichlorians in the Knight flared, telling her that the Padawan before her was destined to be wise and great. It was comforting to know, and Kat would be prouder than a strutting rooster when Rein succeeded.

“You’re afraid to be hurt, to care about those you may lose to either distance, or time.” Kat surmised, looking to Rein for confirmation. It was a normal fear, but one that needed to be released to the Force, and she was certain the young woman before her knew that. Her wide grin returned, however, as the girl explained the attachment she shared with another.

“You said yourself, the strongest bonds are forged by trials,” The Knight recounted, “and caring for another is a wonderful thing.” She smiled. She herself had never been in love — that’s what it was, wasn’t it? Rein loved the other girl —, but she imagined it to be an all-consuming thing, dangerous for Jedi. However, Rein was level-headed and smart, she knew all of that, didn’t need to be told.

“Yes… I believe you are right. I expect I’ll end up disappointed by contact fading, for example. I doubt that helps the whole situation.” Rein chuckled dryly, perhaps with some self-mockery involved as well. Though she realised that there was no time or space for fear in her life - not just because of her connection to the Force and the Order with its rules, but because she simply didn’t want to waste time with it. “I do realise I need to let go of this, however… I should learn to ‘live a little’, as I’ve been told.” A sarcastic natured chuckle once again left her mouth, before sincere laughter took over instead.

It wasn’t that Rein was distrusting - no, quite the opposite, in fact. She trusted quickly and in return all people to trust her too. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it; it was a bunch of things. Her lack of time, though she found herself bored on the ship so very often during travels. Or maybe it was her lack of willingness to forge bonds that she had clung on to for so long, as she hardly ever touched base at the Temple the last few years.

Those times were over now, however. She had committed herself to forging friendships, so her kind nature could be shown to people she would grow to care about. “Indeed, I did.” This Jedi was observant indeed, as a Jedi should be. It caused a smile to grow onto Rein’s lips, as she thought of how her future self would grow to be. She had a feeling Kata’lia knew what kind of bond she was talking about as she mentioned Keldra; there were no more words needed.

“I believe I’m making progress when it comes to forging friendships though.”
